The AN-26 is a small twin-engine multi-purpose transport aircraft developed at the Kiev Mechanical Manufacturing Plant (KMZ: now ANTK Antonov in Ukraine) in the Soviet Union and the Republic of Ukraine. It first flew in 1969, and was codenamed "Curl" by NATO. This aircraft was designed as an advanced version of the AN-24T cargo aircraft, and in order to store large cargo directly from the tail, a large ramp was installed to keep the hatch airtight. This ramp made it possible to load cargo with the entire body of a truck, and also made it easier to drop supplies by air.
